From Monday 4 May to Friday 8 May 2026, 10 players from the 2026 World Cup qualifying protocol were on the agenda.
Stjepan Radeljić scored with an appearance in the Rijeka – Vukovar match to seal a 2:0, while Martin Zlomislić kept a clean sheet in a convincing win; Dennis Hadžikadunić continues to collect minutes and slowly returns to full match rhythm after injury. Hull, coached by our own Sergej Jakirović, played 0:0 with Millwall in the first leg of the Premier League play-off semi-final, with the injured Amir Hadžiahmetović absent. Braga couldn’t make it to the Europa League final with the injured Barišić, and Nidal Čelik returned to the squad but didn’t feature. The individual player reports follow with a brief match comment.
Monday, 4 May
- Osman Hadžikić — Istra 1961 – Slaven Belupo 3:1 (HNL, matchday 33). He didn’t have his best showing in the defeat to Istra, conceding three goals from just four shots on target. Istra went 2:0 up with goals from Smail Prevljak, another regular Bosnia and Herzegovina international, in the 6th and 23rd minutes. Dabro pulled it back to 2:1 in the 38th minute, before Rozić made it 3:1 in the 63rd. Slaven Belupo continued a tough run of nine matches without a win in the HNL and dropped to eighth place.
- Eman Košpo — AS Roma – Fiorentina 4:0 (Serie A, Italy, matchday 35). He was not in the squad for Fiorentina’s convincing 4:0 win away in Rome.
Tuesday, 5 May
- No matches scheduled for our internationals.
Wednesday, 6 May
- Ivan Šunjić — Pafos – Omonia 0:2 (Cyprus League, matchday 33). Pafos were beaten at home by league leaders Omonia, who had already secured the title, and Šunjić played the full 90 minutes. They remained fourth and six points behind third place, which leads into European competitions. The cup final is their only realistic route to Europe, with three league rounds still to play and it will be difficult to catch third-placed Apollon.
Thursday, 7 May
- Adrian Leon Barišić — Freiburg – Braga 3:1 (Europa League, semi-final, second leg). Braga failed to protect the 2:1 advantage from the first leg, and Barišić, of course, didn’t play due to injury. Freiburg were playing with a man advantage from the sixth minute after Dorgeles received a red card. With two goals from Kubler and one from Manzambiya, they went to 3:0, and Victor gave Braga a glimpse of hope with a goal to make it 3:1 in the 79th minute. In the end, Freiburg reached the Europa League final with a 4:3 aggregate score, where they will face Aston Villa.
Friday, 8 May
- Martin Zlomislić — Rijeka – Vukovar 1991 3:0 (HNL, matchday 34). He kept his clean sheet in Rijeka’s comfortable win against bottom-ranked Vukovar. This Rijeka victory is a good warm-up ahead of the Croatian Cup final against Dinamo that follows.
- Dennis Hadžikadunić — Reggiana – Sampdoria 1:0 (Serie B, Italy, matchday 38). The Sampdoria centre-back played 87 minutes in defeat to Reggiana in the last round of the Italian Serie B. The goal for Reggiana was scored by Novakovich in the 76th minute. Sampdoria finished the season 13th, so they will play in the same competition next season as well. Hadžikadunić managed to recover from injury and caught a few games late in the season, which gives him good chances to make the World Cup squad list.
- Stjepan Radeljić — Rijeka – Vukovar 1991 3:0 (HNL, matchday 34). Radeljić put in another solid performance for Rijeka at centre-back and also got on the scoresheet. He scored for 2:0 in the 50th minute. He stayed inside the box after the ball was cleared following a stoppage and slammed the rebound back past Lasickas into Vukovar’s net. The other two goals came from Adu Adjei in the 41st minute and Fruk right at the end in stoppage time. This was Radeljić’s second goal of the season.
- Nidal Čelik — Lens – Nantes 1:0 (Ligue 1, matchday 33). After being out of the match protocol for a few games, he returned to the Lens bench. Still, he didn’t come on in the win over Nantes. The winner came from Soares in the 79th minute. Lens secured second place and qualification for the Champions League next season, and they can still threaten PSG as they have a game in hand. PSG are three points ahead with one match less.
- Amir Hadžiahmetović — Hull – Millwall 0:0 (Championship, England, play-off semi-final, first leg). The first match ended goalless, so everything remains open for the second leg. We note that Hadžiahmetović is injured and won’t play for the rest of the season.
- Dženis Burnić — Paderborn – Karlsruher 2:2 (2. Bundesliga, Germany, matchday 33). Burnić came on in the 84th minute for Karlsruher, for whom this match didn’t have major result significance because they are mid-table. On the other hand, Paderborn put their chances of earning promotion to the Bundesliga at risk. They are third ahead of Hannover, who will have a chance to overtake them in the table tomorrow heading into the final round.
